This debacle needs a remake. Congress needs to clarify what exactly and who exactly can take documents from the White house. The law should be that ANYONE taking ANY classified documents will be prosecuted and face time in prison if convicted. That was pretty much how it was put to me when I handled classified documents. Any documents found in Uncle Joe's or Teflon Don's possession should have been removed and kept as evidence at their trial. And the thought of anyone pardoning themselves is mind boggling.
It would not be a bad thing if former Presidents could be prosecuted for crime against us while President but there lies the true problem Fairness would be out the window so it must be a hard no. Look at how they have constantly maligned President Trump. The precedent you mention is a dangerous one.
